Retainers can be exceptionally useful for players in Final Fantasy XIV. Therefore, you need to understand it! Here's what are retainers, what do they do, how to unlock, and how you can get more retainers in Final Fantasy XIV.
Final Fantasy XIV: What Are Retainers?
In a nutshell, retainers are assistants you hire to help you manage your resources. Each retainer you hire can hold a total of 175 different items. Aside from regular items, retainers can also hold your Gil and crafting crystals that are kept in various departments.
It's also the only source that allows you to sell things on the city markets boards to make FFXIV Gil. When you put an item up for sale, and another player buys your product, the money you receive will go directly into the retainer you used to put that particular item on the market board.
Retainers are like your personal assistant, maid, or manager (which term you prefer) that awaits your beckoning call. It truly is an excellent resource.
Retainers: What Do They Do?
1). Retainers come with a ton of extra inventory slots, and you can store all your extra items with them.
You can store pretty much anything and access it from wherever there's a summoning bell. If you don't feel like venturing out to summon them, you can even install a summoning bell at your own personal house.
2). Your retainers are also how you can sell items on the market board.
From the summoning bell, you can assign each retainer up to 20 items at a time to sell. As soon as anything sells, the Gil will be added to whatever the retainer is holding. Then it's an easy matter to transfer that Gil from your retainer to yourself. Just a few button presses in the Retainer menu.
Those two things (storing items & selling items) are the main things retainers are good for, and those are the least complicated things you'll use them for.
How to unlock Retainers?
To unlock them you must complete the quest of the main story called "The Scions of the Seventh Dawn". You can find this quest at level 17. don't worry, reaching level 17 isn't that hard. Initial levels are easy to complete.
How to Hire Retainers in Final Fantasy XIV?
You will not start with any retainers available, and you'll need to recruit the first two. Don't worry though, those are free and really easy to get. Please follow the steps below:
1). After joining the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, you can purchase a retainer, the main scenario quest everyone goes through in the game.
2). You'll be directed to the Market Ward, where you'll be able to purchase your first two, and then every account in Final Fantasy XIV can have up to two retainers.
3). You need to speak with the Retainer Vocate of the area to buy them.
4). However, if you wish to hire more retainers, you can do so by purchasing more space for them by buying more space on your account. The fee stacks up on top of any fees associated with Final Fantasy XIV fees.
How to Build a Retainer?
After you create a retainer, you can gear it up. It is not too different from equipping your own character. And it is quite fun too! You can put fashion on it the way you like it.
Please be careful while equipping it. It should be in accord with the role of the retainer that you have selected for it.
