Final Fantasy XIV: What is Glamour and How to Unlock it?

Need a primer on FFXIV Glamour? Final Fantasy XIV, like any MMO, is a dress-up game at its core. Its glamour system allows players to change the appearance of their gear to almost whatever they want. Here's what is Glamour, how to unlock it, and transform your gear into your heart's desire.

What is Glamour in Final Fantasy XIV?

Glamouring allows you to use glamour prisms to project the appearance of a piece of equipment over the equipment you're wearing, so you can look good while still having level-appropriate gear. But with some limitations. The gear you want to use the appearance of has to be at the same or a lower level than yours, and it must be for the same class or job.

How To Unlock Glamours in Final Fantasy XIV?

Here's how to use the FF14 Glamour system, including how to unlock it, how to get the quest, how to get and use glamour prisms.

1. Unlocking

Players must visit Vesper Bay to unlock glamour. Unfortunately, the unlock quest can't be accepted until reaching level 15 but completing the job, and main story quests will easily boost new players and characters to that level or higher. Likewise, players going through the main story will often find themselves visiting the Bay anyway, so unlocking glamour is all in all fairly convenient.

Vesper Bay is located in Western Thanalan, just a ways away from the town of Horizon. Once there, players should for a Roegadyn woman named Swyrgeim. She should be sitting at one of the benches surrounding the giant Lalafell statue in the center of town. Just in case you can't find her, here are some coordinates: X 12.7, Y 14.3.

Once you find them, accept and complete the quest "If I Had A Glamour."

2. The Quests

Swyrgeim has three appearance-related unlock quests:

• one for dyes

• one for glamour

• one for crafting glamour prisms

Luckily, all three quests can be completed easily because Swyrgeim has one singular goal in life: to drink orange juice.

Swyrgeim will give you the dyeing quest first, so follow your quest journal, get Swyrgeim her much-desired orange juice, and complete the quest. Let's start with the basics—you can dye most of your gear by buying or crafting dyes and then directly applying them to the item. Go to the Character screen or Armoury chest, select the piece of gear, and drop down to 'Dye.' This will open up a pop-up that lets you preview various colors before applying the dye. You can find many basic dyes sold by Junkmongers in various locations, but the rarer ones are crafted.

Then accept the next quest from her, "If I Had a Glamour." Completing this quest will allow you to begin glamouring your outfits, and Swyrgeim will happily provide you with a handy starting stack of glamour prisms.

If you want to craft your own glamour prisms, switch to a Disciple of the Hand class that's level 15 or higher and pick up "Absolutely Glamourous" from Swyrgeim. Finish the quest to start unlocking glamour prism crafting on each crafting class. Be warned that unlocking glamour prism crafting on one Disciple of the Hand class won't unlock it for all of them, so be sure to buy the recipes for each class you plan on using to craft prisms at the master crafting recipe vendor.

3. Glamour Prisms

Glamour prisms are consumed when you convert an equippable item into a glamour. It costs one prism to convert a single item, so players eager to explore fashion within the world of FFXIV may frequently find themselves running out of prisms.

1). How to get FFXIV Glamour Prisms?

Luckily, acquiring prisms isn't especially hard. You can be crafted or bought from the Market board. As both methods can be rather expensive, players may want to invest in earning Grand Company seals. The Grand Company quartermaster sells glamour prisms for fairly cheap, so players can save up seals and purchase prisms from their Grand Company rather than using their hard-earned Final Fantasy XIV Gil.

2). How to use FFXIV Glamour Prisms?

First, select the item you're wearing and drop down to 'Cast Glamour' —a screen will pop up showing the item you've selected on the left and a list of the items you can Glamour over it from your inventory on the right.

A few things to keep in mind: You can only Glamour items in FF14 that are compatible with the Job you're playing and that are the same level or lower than you are. Once you've chosen the look, you won't apply the Glamour, and the Prism will be spent. Congratulations on your new outfit. Nobody will know how ugly your real armour is under there.

Use the glamour system, and you can look cute, cool, sexy, and anything in-between. Try it now!
