Volta football was added to FIFA 20 as a new game mode. If you are in this mode, you have come to the right place. Here, we have listed some tips and tricks in FIFA 20 Volta mode to help you occupy a dominant position in the Volta league. Whether you are a novice or an experienced veteran, these will be useful to you, please check it carefully.
1. Keep your defenders back
It can be very easy to get possession of the ball as a defender in Volta street football and then start making a dash for the opposing goal. However, if you do this and lose possession immediately, you will be leaving your net wide open, and you will have very little chance to stop the other team from scoring. Stick to passing the ball to your midfielders or attackers in order to keep someone in proximity to your own net.
2. Training day
After you've played your opening Volta match, the mode opens up and lets players have a crack at some training drills. Blowing through these will help you up to your game anyway.
3. Skills, skills, skills
One of the first things you should level up is your skills: you only start with two-star skills, meaning you can't pull off the really magic tricks that will help you slot the ball into the net.
4. Use the simple skills system
The simplest skill is often the best one. Hold down R2 + L2 (RT + LT for Xbox One controllers) and wiggle the left stick and you'll start doing the skill moves the game reckons you should use at that instant.
5. Play it off walls
Some of the Volta arenas have walls, meaning there's no possibility of the ball exiting the arena. If the area is walled off, make the most of them by playing the ball against the wall when you're being closed down. Volta has a lot of narrow spaces, and the narrower passing lanes can make it easy to shut players down, but if a player has space, bouncing the ball off of a wall and getting it past a tough defender could be your best option.
6. Jockey for position
Volta pitches are much smaller than their full-size equivalents, meaning even with just three players you can easily cover plenty of ground. With the flurry of activity on the tiny pitches, it's easy to intercept the ball by holding down L2 (LT for Xbox One players) and moving your player in between passes. FIFA 20's new contextual defense means that jockeying will automatically convert to blocking a shot if anyone tries to hammer a goal home. There's a good argument for just holding down the button to Jockey whenever you're off the ball.
7. In Rush football, don't move your 'keeper on defense
If you give the ball away to a counter-attack and your opponents are through on goal with just your "rush" goalkeeper left to defend, it's tempting to control them and move them forward for a tackle. Don't. Instead, hold L2/LT to jockey like mentioned before and stay close to the goal in order to block as much of the net as possible. The smaller space is to score, the less likely you are to concede.
8. Avoid powered shots
When playing Volta is that the goals are lower than usual, especially in the more claustrophobic matchups. This means that shooting is made more difficult, especially if you're adding elevation to the ball. Only tap Circle/B when you're shooting, and perhaps consider holding LT/L2 or R1/RB to drive or finesse the shot and keep it at ground level. Also note that you can pass the ball into the net, or run it in if you're feeling extra cheeky.
9. Pay attention to players' favorite formations and home turfs
Like in Ultimate Team, chemistry is important in Volta. Three attributes contribute toward your chemistry; home turf, favorite formation, and position. Having multiple players with the same home turf will increase your chemistry, as will having players with the same formation you're using as their favorite.
10. Low power finesse shots are the best
Due to the size of the goals in Volta, it's easy to put slightly too much power on the ball and smack it against the backboard. To prevent that from happening, the easiest way to ensure you always hit the target is to hold R1/RB for a finesse shot and not put too much power on it, to ensure it stays on the ground level. Make sure your left stick is accurate and bam, you'll hardly miss a shot again.
11. Work On Your Shooting Accuracy
To score goals, you'll need to master its unique manual style of taking shots. This means shooting is less about power and more about your accuracy with the left-stick. You need to aim in the exact direction you intend to shoot, or the ball will miss the goal entirely. If you need practice, try switching FIFA 20's shot assistance controls to Manual or Semi. Get used to aiming your shots more accurately, and you'll find yourself scoring more goals in VOLTA as a result.
12. Avoid Rushing Out Of Position
As there are so few players on each team in VOLTA, managing their positioning is key. Dragging players out of position often leads to clear-cut opportunities, and therefore plenty of conceded goals.
13. Pay Attention To Team Chemistry
While not as in-depth as in FIFA Ultimate Team, you'll still want to keep an eye on Team Chemistry in VOLTA. The best way to boost it is by simply playing your team members in their assigned positions. You can also improve your Chemistry further by accommodating the players' favorite formations. All of this helps to give your team a slight edge on the pitch.
14. Upgrade Your Skill Tree
Your created player benefits from attribute upgrades every time they complete a game in VOLTA, but any Skill Points they earn need to be applied manually. This can be done via the Skill Tree section in the VOLTA menu.
15. Recruit Players When You Win
When you win a game in VOLTA Football, you're typically offered the chance to recruit a player (a copy of someone from the opposing side) for your team.
16. Earn More Coins Via Tournaments
You get a few hundred coins for winning (and even drawing/losing) games in VOLTA Tour and VOLTA League, allowing you to acquire new items in the Shop. To earn thousands of VOLTA Coins at once, however, you'll need to start winning some tournaments. In VOLTA Tour, this means completing the multi-stage tournaments at a difficulty level of your choosing. In the online-based VOLTA League, you'll need to acquire enough points to earn promotion to a higher division.
17. Control Revvy directly
As you play through the Volta story mode, you will have the option of each game to either control the entire team or main character Revvy directly. We heavily suggest you pick the latter option, at least when you're starting out, as it gives you the chance to call for passes and learn where your teammates should position themselves.
18. Master the through-pass
By pressing Triangle on PS4 or Y on Xbox One in FIFA 20, you can perform a "through-pass" to a teammate, which aims where they are going to be by the time the ball arrives rather than where they are currently standing.
